The Rangeland Assessment and Monitoring Methods Guide also relies on contributions of information about and reviews of the many rangeland assessment and monitoring methods. The abstracts in this wiki have been created by rangeland science and management professionals who have generously volunteered their time and expertise. We need your help to make the Methods Guide as complete and useful as possible. There are lots of ways that you can get involved:

  1. Author, review, and/or edit abstracts in the wiki.
  2. Be an expert to rate and comment on how different methods can be used to answer rangeland management questions.
  3. Submit examples of where and how you have used different methods and what your experience was.
  4. List your contact information in an abstract if you are a service-provider who can answer users’ questions and help them implement a method.
  5. Spread the word! Enlist your peers and friends to grow the community who are using and contributing to this system.

The guide is in the early phases of development so the subjects addressed at this time are limited in scope. The current focus is on upland shrub steppe vegetation and topics include grazing management, vegetation mapping, weeds, juniper encroachment, seral stage and condition, and some limited treatment of wildlife habitat concerns. In the future we hope to expand the system to consider more topics and attributes of rangeland management.

More Information

This wiki was designed to be a companion to the Rangeland Methods Guide. The Methods Guide helps you find the field and remote-sensing methods most useful for your rangeland assessment and monitoring needs. It provides reviews on how well each method performs to answer specific questions as well as descriptions, relative costs, references to rangeland applications, and contact information for the different techniques.
